Artist Statement

In my portfolio you would find the projects that I have worked on over the past few weeks. I feel really good about my portfolio because I can see the things that I have accomplished and even though it doesn’t have as much pictures as the other students I really like it. Over the course of the semester I learned many things like ISO, shutter speed, Light Metering, and things about photo shop.

I felt the most successful thing that I did was the self portraits because I was really trying to take a lot of good pictures. In the future I would improve my knowledge of taking better pictures of objects. Some of my influences would be seeing other peoples work and try to do what they did.

I have seen improvement in myself by taking better pictures and not being shy about taking pictures. I would say many things about my artwork but all I can really say is that I’m proud of it even if it doesn’t look that good to other people.

Self Portraits

Self Portraits

My idea was to get good pictures by making poses that you wouldn’t regularly see. I wanted to capture any kind of emotion. My ideas did change because of the things in the background around me. The picture I thought that was most creative was my texture picture. The rocks and the dirt made it creative. The thing that was difficult was finding the right type of texture that I could establish in the picture. The creativity plays out really good because if there were no rocks or plants around me it would look like a regular picture of me just sitting down.

I personally thought my composition was good because I placed every thing where it should be and the pictures turned out great. Some pictures were set up specifically like my Light picture I was really focusing the light on my face. There were no happy accidents but it would have been good to have one. I really thought about my face to make the picture stronger. My arms were the one thing that I thought weakened the picture because I didn’t know how to make them work with my posing. I would say my Light picture has the best composition because its has good lighting on my face, things weren’t in the background, and I had a good black and white look to it. My Rule of thirds picture would be the picture I would change the composition on, I would try to put myself closer to the corner of the wall.

I don’t think none of them were too bright to dark, burry or pixilated so my craftsmanship was good. I actually used the shutter speed in dark places so I could get more light in the picture. My lack of understanding some things did alter my pictures but I saw what I needed to work on and I did. My strengths are lighting, composition, and creativity. My weakness is using my body to take the kind of picture that I wanted.

My opinion of my pictures is that I did good, and was impressed with them. I did well at lighting which I really liked. If I had to do this assignment again I would change the background and make it more exciting. My favorite shot was the light picture, because I looked really good. My least favorite was my rule of thirds, because the background was plain. My final thoughts would be that I had fun on the last two projects even though they were tough and difficult, plus now I know ho to use photoshop a lot better.

Personal metaphor

Metaphor Evaluation

I chose this Metaphor because I was feeling scared at the time because I just moved from another school. I was trying to express me in a frightened kind of look. I wanted to capture me being not so scared of new things by running towards my fears and being strong.

I placed myself on a track because I thought since I’m running I should run on a track.
I don’t really have a strong focus on me because of the big long shadow that was in back of me. I think it is balanced because everything evens out with another object. I do say It does feel unified.

I think I did alright because I didn’t have much experience with photoshop. The thing that was difficult was the skin and the tail but as soon as I got the hang of it, it became a little easier. I could have done the tail better. I would change some stuff in the background like maybe less light.

Shutter speed

Q.what two things does the shutter effect?

A.It effects the light and the movement of the picture.

Q.How is shutterspeed represented?

A.It is represented in fractions.

Q.What modes on your camera allow for shutter manipulation?

A.The two modes are aperature

-what is the differences between them?

A. one effecets the light and the other effects movement

Q.when or why would you want to control the shutter speed?

A.You would want to control it when I think its to dark and you want more light

Q. explain the photos

A. the first picture is showing him moving and as you can see it effects the picture when using shutterspeed.

The second picture shows him just taking a picture and he didn't move so its not blurry also the shutterspeed was left on for a long time so thats why theres a lot of light

ISO

The difference between these three photos is the lighting. When you want to use the flash thats when you are just trying to take a picture really quick and with your friends. The ISO 50 is used when your in a really bright area or maybe when its a sunny day. The ISO 5000 is used when theres not enough light

Light Metering

Metering is when you select an object and you press the button to take a picture, halfway it also makes the object lighter in the picture. In this picture we metered the computer so as you can see the computer turned out darker than the person.

In the second picture I Metered the person and the results are clearer than the first. You can see the person instead of just seeing the computer screen. Metering is important when you want to make an object brighter when you out in the dark or someplace where theres not that much light.
